Guidelines.

 

This memo intends to provide essential guidelines for your upcoming presentation (for who have not yet presented his/her paper). 

 

  • For third and fourth year students, you have 30 minutes for your talk.

 

  • For second year students, you have 20 minutes.

 

  • Be extra careful preparing your slides.

    • For a 30 minute talk: maximum 15 slides

    • For a 20 minute talk: maximum 10 slides

    • Try to avoid mixing texts, formulas, figures, and tables on a single slide

    • Use only a brief remarks with figures/tables/formulas on a given slide

    • With texts, use at most three big bullets in a single slide. You can also have sub-items below each bullet.

    • In general, do you best to avoid putting too much materials on slides.

 

  • In terms of organizing your materials:

    • Try to organize your material, for example, as follows: – Brief Introduction – Research Questions – Results – Final Comments

    • Do not waste your time on literature review. You will not even have enough time to discuss your main results.

    • Do not try to derive your model step-by-step, you won’t be able to go too far.

    • Practice at least a few times. Don’t just read slides. Present your work!
